Bonding Bonding is done with composite resin (tooth-colored filling material) and can restore or change the shape of your teeth. Composite can be used to replace chipped or broken surfaces on your teeth, fill in gaps, cover over light stains or even change the length and shape of your teeth. Generally it is best to use composite for smaller areas while more extensive changes are best done with porcelain veneers.
Procedure The bonding procedure is usually completed in one visit. The first step is to remove the decayed or unsightly portion of the tooth. The tooth may then be etched with a gel and a bonding agent is then applied. This will allow the composite resin to adhere to the prepared tooth. The resin is then trimmed and polished, leaving you with a beautifully sculpted, natural-looking restoration.
